Al Ahly began their African Women’s Handball Clubs Championship campaign with a 38-17 victory over Congolese side Mazembe in Angola.
The tournament finals are being held in Angola from 4 to 14 October.
Al Ahly established a strong advantage in the opening half, leading 19-8 at the interval. They maintained control after the break to complete a 21-goal victory, with Kenzy Hatem named player of the match.
The Egyptian side are in Group A alongside FAP of Cameroon, Angolan club Primeiro de Agosto, Ivorian team Abidjan and Mazembe.
Al Ahly are managed by Mohamed Adel, who selected the following squad for the competition: Amina Hesham, Rawan Saeed, Nosra Eid, Menna Allah Sayed, Rahma Mohamed, Kenzy Hatem, Farah El Shazly, Rana Radi, Laila Haitham, Malak Ahmed, Shahd El Shawarby, Amina Atef, Shorouk Mohamed, Soheila Khaled, Nada Tamer, Nouran Khaled, Jihad Wael and Alaa Saber.
Angolan clubs have dominated the continental title since 1997, with Petro Atletico and Primeiro de Agosto winning the competition during that period.
Al Ahly women have won the tournament once. Their only success came in 1979, when they lifted the trophy in the inaugural edition of the competition.
They finished fourth in the 2024 edition before reaching the runners-up position in 2025.
