Kylian Mbappe has reportedly found himself in a power struggle with Real Madrid after asking the club to support his Ballon d’Or campaign, according to Marca journalist Javier Tinto.
Speaking on La Tribu, Tinto claimed Mbappe made the request during derby week but Real Madrid declined. The journalist also said the France forward approached Zinedine Zidane, who could not back him because Ousmane Dembele was also in contention for the award.
“What I’m told is that during derby week Mbappe asked the club to make an effort and launch a campaign in favour of his Ballon d’Or, which is what interests him. The club did not give in,” Tinto said.
He suggested the refusal may have affected Mbappe’s attitude in the derby, while also questioning his conduct during the international break. Tinto pointed to the forward’s injury, absence from Valdebebas and images of him training away from Madrid.
“Mbappe is neither clumsy nor stupid; it is a power struggle with the club. Everything is orchestrated,” Tinto claimed.
The report warns that Madrid supporters could react strongly if they feel Mbappe is putting his personal ambitions before the club.
