Ali Mahmoud returns to Al Ahly training ahead of Egypt Capital Cup opener

Ali Mahmoud returned to Al Ahly training on Monday, joining the squad at the club’s Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium in Al Jazira as preparations continued for their Egypt Capital Cup campaign.

Al Ahly are due to face Petroleum Assiut on Wednesday in the opening round of the competition.

The midfielder took part in the session despite the rest granted to the team’s players after the latest Egypt national team camp. Ali Mahmoud chose to continue training as he works towards the next phase of the season.

He had been involved with Egypt during the recent international period, but played only a few minutes in the national team’s match against Angola in the opening round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Al Ahly football director Wael Gomaa had previously disclosed when the club’s international players were expected to return.

Before the session began, head coach Hussein Ammouta held a short meeting with the players. The squad then completed a series of fitness exercises, followed by position-specific work and a competitive practice match involving the players.

The session formed part of Al Ahly’s preparations after the team returned to training on Sunday evening at the Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium, following a day off.

That break came after Al Ahly’s friendly against Misr El-Makkasa, which they won 3-0.
