A proposal to stage the next Arab Club Cup in Cairo is being considered, but the tournament can only go ahead in Egypt if leading clubs across the Arab world agree to take part.
A source from the Arab Football Federation told FilGoal.com that Cairo had been put forward as a potential host for the competition, following a report by Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat claiming Egypt would stage the tournament in the summer of 2027.
“There is a proposal to hold the Arab Club Cup in Cairo, but staging the tournament is conditional on securing approval from the major clubs to participate, such as Al-Nassr, Al Hilal, Zamalek, Al Ahly, Pyramids FC and other leading clubs from the Arab countries,” the source said.
“This is a natural requirement to attract sponsors to the tournament. We are currently discussing the possibility of their participation with those clubs, taking into account their continental commitments.”
The source’s comments indicate that Egypt has not yet been confirmed as the host and that the participation of high-profile clubs remains a key part of the planning process.
According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the possibility of Cairo hosting the competition reflects the continued prominence of Egyptian supporters and their strong presence at football events.
The most recent edition was won by Al-Nassr, who claimed the title with a 2-1 victory in the final, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring both of their goals.
Zamalek also participated in that edition but were eliminated in the group stage after finishing third with four points.
Al-Shabab topped the group with seven points, while Al-Nassr finished second on five points. Tunisian club US Monastir came fourth and ended the group stage without a point.
The proposed 2027 tournament would therefore depend on both the final decision over Cairo’s hosting rights and the ability of major clubs to fit the competition into their existing continental schedules.
