CAN 2027 qualifiers: Egypt dominate best XI as Mofokeng earns perfect 10/10

Egypt provide three players for the strongest XI from the second matchday of the CAN 2027 qualifiers, following their emphatic 5-0 victory over South Sudan.

The provisional team, selected using ratings provided by partner Sportmonks, features nine different nationalities and is arranged in an attack-minded 4-4-2 formation. Egypt are the only country with more than one representative.

The selection will be completed after the Angola-Malawi fixture on 6 October.

Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Fernando Embadje is included after playing a key role in his side’s surprise 3-0 win over Nigeria. He made five saves as Guinea-Bissau secured one of the round’s most notable results.

Comoros’ Bendjaloud Youssoufa takes the right-back position after scoring the only goal in the 1-0 victory against Namibia. On the opposite flank, Zambia’s David Hamansenya impressed during the 2-0 win over Togo, recording three key passes and contesting four aerial duels.

Malian defender Nathan Gassama was selected after a commanding display in the 1-0 victory away to Liberia. He made 10 clearances and competed in four aerial duels. Egypt’s Rami Rabia completes the central defensive pairing after helping his team keep a clean sheet against South Sudan.

In midfield, Morocco’s Azzedine Ounahi earns his place after scoring in the 2-0 win over Lesotho. He was influential throughout the match and created three key passes.

Ounahi is joined by Egypt’s Emam Ashour, who produced a decisive performance against South Sudan. The midfielder supplied one assist and made four key passes.

The wide positions are occupied by Relebohile Mofokeng and Rodolfo Aloko. Mofokeng was outstanding for South Africa in their 5-0 victory over Eritrea, scoring twice and providing three key passes. The Union Saint-Gilloise winger received the highest possible rating of 10/10.

Benin’s Aloko also scored twice, finding the net in the 2-0 win over Mauritania, and added two key passes to his performance.

The forward line brings together Egypt’s Omar Marmoush and Tunisia’s Hazem Mastouri. Both players scored twice during the second matchday, with Marmoush striking for the Pharaohs against South Sudan and Mastouri scoring for the Carthage Eagles in their meeting with Botswana.
