Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Senny Mayulu will miss several weeks of action after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with France U21.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has France and DR Congo root was forced off shortly before half-time during France’s 2-0 victory over Estonia earlier this week after complaining of pain in his left thigh.

Mayulu initially appeared to have avoided a serious problem, with France U21 head coach Gérald Baticle explaining after the match that the player’s substitution was precautionary.

The decision was taken to prevent the injury from worsening, with the French coaching and medical staff unwilling to take any unnecessary risks with the PSG academy graduate.

However, further assessment has now confirmed that the problem is more significant than initially feared.

PSG announced on Thursday that Mayulu has suffered an injury to his left thigh and will require treatment over the coming weeks. The club’s update effectively rules him out of action for a considerable period as he begins his rehabilitation.

The injury represents another setback for Mayulu, who has already found regular first-team football difficult to secure at PSG this season.

The versatile midfielder has featured in only four matches across all competitions and has also been omitted from several matchday squads, limiting his opportunities to establish himself in the team.

His spell on the sidelines will now further interrupt his attempts to compete for more playing time under PSG head coach Luis Enrique.

Mayulu had been involved with the France U21 side during the current international break, giving him an opportunity to gain valuable playing experience before the injury brought his involvement to an early end.

PSG will now focus on his recovery, with the club expected to monitor his condition closely throughout the rehabilitation process.

The French champions will hope the young midfielder can make a full recovery without complications and return to training once he has been cleared by the medical staff.

For Mayulu, the immediate priority will be recovering from the thigh problem and regaining full fitness before attempting to force his way back into the PSG squad.
