Zamalek have announced the death of former women’s volleyball captain and club board member Mariam Esmat.
Esmat died on Thursday morning, with the club and its board, led by Hussein Labib, paying tribute to her.
She was a prominent member of Zamalek’s golden generation in women’s volleyball and went on to captain both the club and the Egypt women’s national team during her playing career.
A funeral prayer for Esmat will be held on Thursday, 1 October 2026, after the Asr prayer at Hassan El Sherbatly Mosque.
Esmat was married to the late Ali El Sargani, who previously served as president of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation.
