Al Ahly step up preparations as Mohamed El Shenawy returns to training

Mohamed El Shenawy took part in Al Ahly’s training session as the club continued its preparations during the international break.

The squad are following a training programme designed to maintain the players’ fitness and ensure they are ready for the upcoming commitments.

Head coach Hussein Ammouta held a meeting with the players on the pitch before training began, using the session to explain a number of technical and tactical instructions ahead of the next stage of the season.

Ahmed Nabil Kouka, Yasser Ibrahim and Karim El Debes continued to work through their rehabilitation programmes as they move closer to returning to full team training.

The session opened with a light physical workout before the players moved on to technical and tactical exercises with the ball.

El Shenawy, Hamza Alaa, Yassin Abdelhamid and Mohamed El Sayed initially trained individually under the supervision of the goalkeeping coach before joining the ball-work exercises.

Al Ahly are scheduled to play their second friendly of the current international-break programme against Misr El-Makasa on Friday, 2 October. The club’s first match during the break ended in a 4-2 victory over Libyan side Al-Ittihad Al-Misrati on Monday.

The friendlies form part of the coaching staff’s plans to make use of the international window and keep the squad prepared for the return to competitive action.

Al Ahly will resume their official fixtures against Petrojet on 7 October in the Egypt Capital Cup. The match will mark the club’s opening game in the group stage of the 2026-27 competition.

Following the meeting with Petrojet, the team will begin preparations for the Cairo derby against Zamalek in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League on 11 October.

Al Ahly have been placed in Group C of the Egypt Capital Cup alongside El Sharqia, ENPPI, El Gouna, Petrojet and Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

Egyptian Premier League clubs will return to action after the international break in the opening round of the Egypt Capital Cup before the league programme resumes.

The domestic schedule will later pause again in November for another international break.

Al Ahly’s derby against Zamalek on 11 October will therefore follow their first Egypt Capital Cup fixture against Petrojet.
