Malek Yasser will not feature for Al Ittihad Alexandria at the friendly basketball tournament in Damascus because of issues relating to his military service paperwork.
The Al Ittihad Alexandria delegation has travelled to Beirut and is scheduled to continue to Damascus by road on Tuesday morning for the competition.
Yasser, the club’s latest signing, joined Al Ittihad after leaving Al Ahly at the end of last season. The Egyptian Basketball Federation approved his eligibility to move to another club.
The player will therefore miss the tournament in the Syrian capital, where Al Ittihad are taking part in a friendly event.
Al Ittihad announced several weeks ago that Ahmed Omar had been appointed as head coach, replacing Ashraf Tawfik.
The change followed the club’s defeat by Al Ahly in last season’s Egyptian league title race.
Yasser won the Egyptian league title with Al Ahly last season before completing his move to Al Ittihad Alexandria.
