Ghana captain Jordan Ayew ruled out of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew will miss the Black Stars’ next two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Gambia after suffering a groin injury.

The forward was expected to play an important part in Ghana’s upcoming fixtures, but his injury has forced him to withdraw from the international break.

Ayew’s absence adds to the growing list of players unavailable to head coach Carlos Queiroz as Ghana prepare for two crucial qualifiers. The Black Stars travel to Bouake on Thursday to face Cote d’Ivoire before hosting Gambia in Accra next week.

The loss of their captain creates another selection problem for Queiroz, particularly in attack. His coaching staff must now assess the remaining options available before the two matches.

Ghana have already made several changes to their squad because of injuries, and Ayew’s withdrawal further disrupts preparations for the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars will now rely on their remaining attacking players to fill the gap left by Ayew as they continue their preparations for the meeting with Cote d’Ivoire.
