Algeria squad: Brahim Hemdani brings fresh faces into Fennecs set-up

Brahim Hemdani has begun his reign as Algeria manager by naming a 26-man squad for the Fennecs’ next two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.

Several established players remain in the group, but the selection also highlights a number of players who could take on greater responsibility under the new manager.

Sohaib Nair is among the names attracting attention. The AS Saint-Etienne central defender has previously been called up by Algeria but is yet to make his international debut. Having developed in France, the defender gives Hemdani another option and adds competition in the centre of defence.

Kilian Belazzoug, the 20-year-old Stade Rennais goalkeeper, is also familiar with the national set-up. He was called up earlier this year and continues to gain experience at international level.

Achraf Abada has likewise already been introduced to the Algeria squad. The USM Alger defender first joined the senior group in 2026 and featured in the friendly matches against Guatemala and Uruguay.

Returning players included

Some of the selected players are not new to Algeria but have been brought back into the squad after periods away.

Ilan Kebbal returns after missing the 2026 World Cup. The Paris FC attacking midfielder enjoyed a productive 2025-2026 Ligue 1 campaign, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

Adil Aouchiche, Himad Abdelli, Adem Zorgane and Saadi Radouani have also been recalled by Hemdani.

The manager has further included Bachir Belloumi, whose experience in England with Hull City is among the factors behind his return to the squad.

The range of returning and emerging players gives Hemdani additional choices as Algeria prepare for their upcoming matches against Zambia and Burundi in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
