Kaizer Chiefs suffer double injury blow before Golden Arrows clash

Kaizer Chiefs will be without goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and striker Wandile Duba for their Betway Premiership meeting with Golden Arrows.

The match is the final league fixture before the upcoming international break and will be the second meeting between the sides this season. Golden Arrows knocked Kaizer Chiefs out of the MTN8 with a 1-0 victory in the quarter-finals.

Petersen is expected to miss between four and six weeks after suffering a knee injury in training on Tuesday morning.

“Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen sustained a knee injury during training on Tuesday morning and will be sidelined for an estimated four to six weeks,” Kaizer Chiefs said.

The club confirmed that the experienced goalkeeper damaged the medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He will now begin a rehabilitation programme.

Petersen had started every match since the season began in August, making his absence a significant setback for the club before the meeting with Golden Arrows.

Duba, meanwhile, is expected to be unavailable for approximately two weeks after sustaining a hip and groin injury.

“Adding to the concerns, attacker Wandile Duba has been ruled out for approximately two weeks after picking up a hip and groin injury,” the club said.

The forward has scored three goals already this season. Kaizer Chiefs said he has a minor defect in the affected area, with the medical team set to monitor his condition over the coming week before deciding on the next step in his treatment.

“Both players have played key roles in Kaizer Chiefs’ strong start to the campaign, and their absence will be felt,” the club added.

“The Club extends its best wishes to Petersen and Duba for a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming them back to action soon.”

Kaizer Chiefs remain unbeaten in the league after opening their campaign with three wins and three draws. They have collected 12 points, while Golden Arrows are seventh with seven points.

The upcoming fixture gives Golden Arrows another opportunity to build on their earlier success against Kaizer Chiefs, while the Amakhosi must adjust to the loss of two players who have been important during their strong start to the season.
