Aboubacar Keita handed first Guinea call-up for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying

Aboubacar Keita has been called up to the Guinea national team for the first time, earning recognition after an impressive start to his season with Swedish club Kalmar FF.

The 26-year-old defender was born in New York and developed his football career in the United States. He began his professional career in Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew, helping the club win the championship title in 2020.

Keita later played for the Colorado Rapids and St. Louis CITY before moving to Europe. He joined Kalmar FF in Sweden in an effort to revive his career and quickly made an impression with his physical strength and positional awareness.

His performances have established him as an important part of Kalmar FF’s defence. Keita has scored 2 goals in 8 appearances this season, proving effective in defensive duels and on set pieces.

That consistency at the highest level of European football has now earned him an opportunity with the Syli National. The call-up represents a new international stage for Keita, who is expected to bring his experience to Guinea’s defence.
