PAMOJA AFCON 2027: One visa planned for fans travelling across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

Football fans attending PAMOJA AFCON 2027 will be able to travel between Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania using a single visa, according to Local Organising Committee chief executive Tony Lung’aho.

The three East African countries will jointly host the Africa Cup of Nations from 19 June to 17 July 2027, marking the first time the tournament has been staged across the region in this way.

Lung’aho said making travel between the host nations straightforward would be central to the competition’s success. He was speaking at the Africa Sports Biz forum in Rwanda.

“We are working with many partners throughout the continent so you get to appreciate how much work is being done behind the scenes,” said Lung’aho.

“We want to welcome the world to Africa, and the Pamoja visa is at the forefront of this because people will be able to travel without any restrictions.”

Organisers are hoping the simplified travel arrangements will encourage more supporters to attend matches in person, rather than relying solely on interest generated through digital platforms.

The 2025 AFCON in Morocco attracted one billion digital views across social media, while 1,116,959 spectators had attended matches by the end of the quarter-finals, according to figures published by 360 sport.

Lung’aho said the objective for PAMOJA AFCON was to increase stadium attendances beyond those levels.

He also expects the movement of supporters and other visitors across the three countries to provide an economic boost. The organising committee believes the increased travel will benefit Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, while also helping sponsors secure a return on their investment.

The tournament will form part of a broader effort to present the region as an accessible destination for international football supporters, with the single visa intended to remove barriers to travel between the host nations.
