Bayern Munich hand Senegal youngster Bara Sapoko Ndiaye long-term deal

Bara Sapoko Ndiaye has completed a rapid rise from academy football in The Gambia to securing a long-term contract with German champions Bayern Munich.

The 18-year-old midfielder was born in Mékhé, Senegal, but continued his development with Gambinos Stars Africa in neighbouring The Gambia.

The academy works with Red&Gold Football, a joint venture between Bayern and Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC focused on identifying and developing young international talent.

Ndiaye’s performances soon attracted attention in Europe, with the midfielder given opportunities to train with Bayern’s youth and reserve teams before spending time with Swiss club Grasshopper Club Zurich.

Grasshopper coach Gerald Scheiblehner was impressed by the teenager’s ability in possession.

“He’s nippy and knows what to do in tight spaces,” Scheiblehner said.

Bayern continued to monitor Ndiaye’s progress and brought him to Munich on loan in January 2026.

His development accelerated after his arrival, with Ndiaye making his Bundesliga debut in April during Bayern’s 5-0 victory over St Pauli.

He went on to make four senior appearances before the end of the campaign, performances that helped bring him into Senegal’s plans and strengthened Bayern’s belief that he could have a future at the club.

Earlier this month, Bayern made the move permanent and rewarded Ndiaye with a professional contract running until June 2031.

The deal marks another significant step in the youngster’s rise, which has taken him from youth football in Senegal and The Gambia to the Bundesliga and the Senegal national team in little more than a year.
