Solomons urges Kaizer Chiefs to focus on themselves in Betway Premiership top-three race

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillon Solomons says his side must concentrate on their own performances despite the close battle involving the three unbeaten teams at the top of the Betway Premiership.

Eighteen-time champions Mamelodi Sundowns lead the standings with 19 points from seven matches. Defending champions Orlando Pirates, who are also Chiefs’ arch rivals, are second on 13 points from five games.

Kaizer Chiefs are third, two points behind Orlando Pirates, having played the same number of matches as the Buccaneers.

All three clubs remain unbeaten in the league. Kaizer Chiefs travel to Polokwane City at the weekend, with victory potentially taking them above Orlando Pirates, who will be on CAF Champions League duty. A win could also reduce the gap to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Solomons acknowledged that players and teams keep an eye on their closest rivals, but said Chiefs would not allow the other sides’ results to distract them from their own objectives.

“Obviously, you watch every single game when it comes to the other two teams,” he told Chiefs’ media.

“But for us, it’s just obviously staying on course, doing what we need to do firstly, and knowing our way. Obviously, we want to achieve great things with the club and that’s how we’re going to do it. We can’t be focusing on what other teams are doing.

“Yes, we’re all going to have a tight schedule coming close to the end of the year. But for us, it’s just staying on course, knowing what we need to do, and focusing on what we can control, and that’s our games.

“And whatever they do on their side, they do. You know we are just here to focus on ourselves and focus on our team.”
