AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya embraces Khama Billiat comparison

AmaZulu FC striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya says he is pleased to be compared with former Kaizer Chiefs stars Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona.

The 23-year-old has made a strong start to the season and established himself as an important part of Usuthu’s attack. He has scored eight goals and provided one assist so far.

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane believes Ngwenya has the ability to reach the level achieved by the two former Chiefs players, both of whom represented Zimbabwe.

Ngwenya welcomed Zwane’s assessment, particularly because Billiat is a player he regards as a role model. The striker also said he regularly seeks advice from the former Warriors star.

“Yeah, I feel happy because one of those players is my role model, Khama Billiat,” said Ngwenya.

“It makes me feel happy because every time I talk to him, he always tell me to shine.”

Ngwenya has troubled defenders since last season, but the forward accepts that opponents are becoming more familiar with his style of play.

As teams attempt to limit his influence by marking him closely, Ngwenya says he will need to adjust his approach and look for different ways to get through their defences.

“Yeah, obviously it’s a big challenge because they are going to try to always mark me but I will try to find another way to penetrate,” he added.

AmaZulu return to action on Saturday, when they host struggling Marumo Gallants.
