Wisła Płock sign Nigerian winger Samuel Akere on loan

Samuel Akere has left Widzew Łódź on loan to join fellow Polish top-flight side Wisła Płock in a move aimed at giving the Nigerian winger more regular playing time.

The 22-year-old has struggled for opportunities since returning to Poland, having made only one Ekstraklasa appearance for Widzew this season. Wisła Płock have now offered him the chance to play a more prominent role as he looks to regain his rhythm.

Akere joined Widzew Łódź last year in a deal worth about €750,000. He made 15 league appearances during the first half of his time at the club before moving to Croatian side Osijek on loan.

His spell in Croatia provided the winger with considerably more playing time. Akere featured in 18 matches for Osijek and scored three goals before returning to Widzew.

However, his opportunities have been limited since his return to Poland. He has made just one league appearance this season, increasing the likelihood of another temporary move.

Wisła Płock have now completed the loan deal, with the club hoping Akere can make a greater contribution during the remainder of the campaign.

The Nigerian has made 18 appearances in total for Widzew Łódź, scoring once and registering one assist. His limited involvement has made regular football a priority as he continues to develop at the age of 22.

Wisła Płock, managed by Adam Majewski, are prepared to give Akere greater responsibility. The club currently occupies 16th position in the Polish league and will face Cracovia in their next fixture.

For Akere, the move provides an opportunity to return to consistent competitive action. After spending time on loan in Croatia and then struggling to establish himself in Widzew’s team, regular football at Wisła Płock could help him rebuild his confidence and form.

The loan also gives Widzew the chance to monitor his progress away from the club before deciding on his longer-term future in Łódź.

Akere’s immediate priority will be to secure regular minutes and make an impression at his new club. At 22, the Nigerian winger remains at a stage of his career where consistent playing time is particularly important to his development.

Wisła Płock will hope the former Osijek player can provide an attacking boost, while Widzew will be looking for the temporary move to help Akere regain match fitness and return ready to compete for a place in their squad.
