Ferran Torres hat-trick helps PSG begin Champions League title defence with 6-1 win

Holders Paris Saint-Germain began their bid for a third successive UEFA Champions League title in emphatic fashion by beating Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at the Parc des Princes, with Ferran Torres scoring a hat-trick.

The opening night of the league phase also brought convincing wins for Barcelona and Stuttgart, while Liverpool came from behind to defeat Atletico Madrid and Arsenal secured a narrow victory at Napoli.

Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 Slovan Bratislava

Paris Saint-Germain, who are hoping to become only the fourth club to win three consecutive European Cups, quickly established their superiority against Yaya Toure’s Slovan Bratislava.

Ousmane Dembele gave the hosts the lead in the 17th minute when he followed up to score from a rebound. He doubled the advantage six minutes later, heading in a deflected cross to put Luis Enrique’s side firmly in control.

Torres then took over. He converted a cross from Dembele before half-time and added his second shortly after the restart with a powerful finish.

The Spain forward completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute, sending a volley spinning into the net. Suleiman Camara scored a superb consolation for Slovan, but Fabian Ruiz restored PSG’s five-goal advantage late on.

Barcelona 5-1 Feyenoord

Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the season with an impressive 5-1 victory over Feyenoord.

Raphinha opened the scoring after only three minutes, while summer signing Karim Adeyemi made it 2-0 with a long-range strike in the 22nd minute.

Raphinha scored his second shortly after the interval before Lamine Yamal added a fourth from a set-piece in the 77th minute. Sem Steijn pulled one back for Feyenoord five minutes later, but substitute Gabriel Jesus completed the scoring with his first goal in Barcelona colours.

Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Liverpool recovered from an early setback to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 at Anfield.

Julian Alvarez created the opening goal in the 17th minute, setting up Marcos Llorente to lift the ball over Alisson. It was Llorente’s fifth goal in three visits to Anfield.

Liverpool drew level before the break through Dominik Szoboszlai, who finished after a clever backheel from Ronald Araujo.

Alexis Mac Allister completed the comeback five minutes into the second half with a left-footed strike from distance, giving Liverpool successive victories.

Napoli 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal produced a disciplined away display to edge past Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Mikel Arteta’s side missed several opportunities in the first half, with Alex Meret saving a header from Mikel Merino and Piero Hincapie failing to convert from close range.

The decisive moment came with 15 minutes remaining. Martin Ødegaard exchanged passes with Christos Tzolis before driving a shot against the far post and into the net to secure three points for the Gunners.

Stuttgart 3-1 Viking

Ermedin Demirovic scored three times in the first half as Stuttgart defeated Norwegian champions Viking 3-1 at home.

Demirovic struck in the 20th, 26th and 32nd minutes to put Stuttgart in a commanding position. Viking briefly reduced the deficit through Tripic in the 22nd minute but could not prevent defeat.

The Norwegian club were appearing in the competition for the first time in 34 years.

Sporting CP 3-1 Galatasaray

Sporting CP recovered from an early own goal to beat Galatasaray 3-1 in Lisbon.

Galatasaray went ahead in the fifth minute when Inacio turned the ball into his own net at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Sporting levelled through Catamo in the 27th minute, before Suarez put the Portuguese side ahead from the penalty spot 12 minutes into the second half. Zalazar added the third in the 63rd minute to complete the turnaround.
