Mexico have unveiled a special third kit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving one of Bafana Bafana’s opponents a distinctive new look for the tournament.
The jersey, produced by German sportswear giant adidas, is designed as a tribute to Mexico’s football culture and history. It also recognises the country’s unique position as the first nation set to host the World Cup three times.
The design features a tonal ‘MX’ pattern across the shirt, while a V-neck collar gives the kit a classic appearance. The words “Somos Mexico” are stitched into the design, adding a clear national identity to the jersey.
The latest release also continues adidas’ use of its traditional trefoil logo on Mexico’s alternative strips. The logo appears on both the team’s away kit and the new third kit.
adidas Mexico Senior Director Pablo Cavallaro said the design was developed to represent the “Mexican spirit” while celebrating the country’s role in World Cup history.
Mexico will be one of the teams facing Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making the kit launch an early point of interest ahead of the tournament.
Alongside the match jersey, adidas and the Mexico national football team have released a wider lifestyle collection created in partnership with Someone Somewhere.
The collaboration brings together football apparel and traditional craftsmanship. Items in the range include embroidered details made by women artisans from Naupan, in Puebla’s Sierra Norte region.
A special-edition “Artisan JSY” jersey forms part of the collection. It combines the main features of Mexico’s new third-kit design with a polo collar and a finish influenced by lifestyle clothing.
The release gives the Mexico collection a broader focus beyond the pitch, linking the national team’s World Cup identity with local craft and Mexican cultural heritage.
For adidas, the kit continues the use of design elements that connect Mexico’s football shirts with the country’s history and identity. The tonal ‘MX’ pattern, the “Somos Mexico” detail and the returning trefoil logo are all incorporated into the latest third-strip design.
The new jersey arrives as Mexico prepares to take part in a tournament that will mark another important moment in its football history. The country is set to become the first to host the FIFA World Cup on three occasions, adding further significance to the collection launched for the competition.
The accompanying lifestyle range, meanwhile, extends the release beyond the standard match shirt. Its embroidered details and artisan-made elements provide a different interpretation of the third kit, while the “Artisan JSY” offers a version with a polo collar and a more casual finish.
The collection means Mexico’s preparations for the 2026 tournament now include both a new playing strip and a set of lifestyle products reflecting the country’s football culture.
