Kaizer Chiefs and Thabo Cele mutually part ways

South African outfit Kaizer Chiefs have mutually parted ways with midfielder following a constructive discussions between both parties.

The midfielder’s departure from Naturena comes as Kaizer Chiefs continue to reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

“Kaizer Chiefs have terminated Thabo Cele’s contract by mutual agreement, following constructive discussions between both parties,” the club said.

The club added that the agreement will allow Cele to pursue a new opportunity while Kaizer Chiefs continue their preparations for the new campaign.

“The decision will allow Cele to pursue new opportunities while Amakhosi continue to reshape their squad for the 2026/27 season,” the statement continued.

Kaizer Chiefs also expressed their appreciation to the midfielder for his contribution during his time with the club.

“We thank ‘Induna Yendawo’ for his commitment during his time at Kaizer Chiefs and wish him the very best in his future career,” the club said.

Cele now becomes a free agent and will be able to assess offers from other clubs as he looks to determine the next chapter of his career.

His departure represents another change to the Kaizer Chiefs squad as the club works on building a team capable of competing strongly during the 2026/27 campaign.

The club’s decision to part ways with Cele by mutual consent also brings an end to his spell with one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.
