USFA claimed third place in the UFOA-B women’s qualifying tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory over Benin’s Dynamique FC at the Stade du 4-Aout in Ouagadougou on Saturday.
The result gave Les Colombes a positive finish to their regional campaign after they were beaten in the semi-finals. USFA responded to that disappointment with a composed performance, scoring twice before half-time and adding two further goals after the interval.
Dielawalea Sow set the Burkinabe side on course for victory when she opened the scoring in the sixth minute. The forward’s early strike was her third goal of the tournament and gave USFA an immediate advantage.
Leslie Beremwidougou then extended the lead in the 26th minute, putting USFA 2-0 ahead and placing Dynamique FC under significant pressure.
The Benin side did not allow the game to slip away before the break, however. Dynamique FC pulled a goal back before half-time, reducing the deficit and ensuring the teams went into the interval with USFA leading 2-1.
USFA regained control after the restart and ultimately put the outcome beyond doubt during the closing stages. Sow scored again in the 77th minute to complete her brace and take her tournament tally to four goals.
Deborah Guira then added a fourth goal for USFA six minutes from full time. Her 83rd-minute effort was her third of the competition and confirmed the Burkinabe team’s emphatic victory.
The 4-1 success secured USFA third place in the UFOA-B women’s qualifying tournament. Les Colombes will therefore leave the regional competition with a bronze medal after recovering from their semi-final elimination with a strong display in the play-off for third place.
The final score reflected USFA’s improvement after the break. Having led by only one goal at half-time, they scored twice in the second half to turn their advantage into a decisive win.
For Sow, the match provided an especially notable conclusion to the tournament. Her two goals took her total to four, while Guira also finished the competition with three goals after completing the scoring in Ouagadougou.
USFA’s campaign consequently ended on a positive note, with the team securing the final podium place through a clear victory over Dynamique FC.
