Lawrence Agyekum takes next step with Erzurumspor FK move

Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has joined Erzurumspor FK from Cercle Brugge, completing a move to the Turkish Super Lig on 4 September.

The 22-year-old central midfielder leaves Belgium after starting the 2026-27 season with Cercle, where he made two appearances in the Jupiler Pro League. He now begins a new chapter in Turkey with Erzurumspor, moving into a different domestic competition after more than two years in the Belgian club’s squad.

Agyekum originally joined Cercle on loan from Austrian club Salzburg in July 2024. That temporary spell became a permanent transfer in July 2025, when Cercle signed the Ghanaian for €800,000.

His time in Bruges included limited league involvement at the beginning of the current campaign, with both of his appearances coming without a start. The move to Erzurumspor gives him a change of league and club environment as he continues his senior career in Europe.

Before his move to Belgium, Agyekum was part of the Salzburg set-up. He spent periods on loan at FC Liefering, Salzburg’s development side, before returning to the Austrian club. He was also part of the Salzburg squad that won the Austrian championship in the 2022-23 season.

Agyekum began his senior career with WAFA SC in Ghana after coming through WAFA’s under-19 side. Salzburg brought him to Europe in February 2022, and he subsequently gained experience with FC Liefering before his first move to Cercle.

The midfielder is listed at 1.74 metres and favours his right foot. His preferred position is central midfield, the role he has occupied throughout his recent club career.

The transfer adds a player with experience in Austrian and Belgian football to Erzurumspor’s squad. Agyekum’s arrival also marks a move from the Jupiler Pro League to the Super Lig, with the Ghanaian now attached to his third senior club outside Ghana.

Agyekum has left Cercle Brugge and completed his move to Erzurumspor FK.
