Morocco: Moghreb Tetouan sack promotion-winning coach weeks before new season
Moroccan club Moghreb Tetouan have parted company with head coach Abdelkrim El Jinani just weeks before the start of the new football season.
The decision comes despite El Jinani successfully leading the club back to Morocco’s top professional division.
Moghreb Tetouan announced the termination of the coach’s contract in an official statement, saying the decision was taken as part of an institutional approach aimed at protecting the interests of the club and meeting the demands of the next stage.
Promotion success not enough
El Jinani’s departure comes as a surprise given his role in securing Moghreb Tetouan’s return to the top flight.
The coach guided the club back into the first professional division, but the achievement was not enough to secure his position ahead of the new campaign.
The decision means Moghreb Tetouan will begin preparations for life back in Morocco’s top division under a new technical direction.
Search for replacement begins
The club’s management is now working to appoint a new head coach to continue preparations for the upcoming season.
Known as Al-Mat, Moghreb Tetouan will hope to find a replacement quickly as they prepare for the challenge of competing in the Moroccan top flight.
The early dismissal adds to a series of unexpected developments in Moroccan professional football ahead of the new season, with Tetouan now facing a crucial decision over who will lead the newly promoted side into the next chapter of their campaign.
