Mamelodi Sundowns defender Asekho Tiwani joins Kruger United on loan

Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Asekho Tiwani has joined Betway Premiership newcomers Kruger United on loan as he seeks regular top-flight football and another opportunity to develop his career at the highest domestic level.

KickOff understands that the 21-year-old defender has moved to Kruger United from Sundowns, with the club bringing in reinforcements as it attempts to improve a difficult start to life in the top flight.

Kruger United are currently bottom of the Betway Premiership table as they continue to adjust to the demands of top-flight football. Tiwani’s arrival is expected to provide greater depth at left-back, while also giving the club another option as it looks to strengthen its performances and climb the standings.

The move represents a fresh opportunity for Tiwani, who spent part of the previous campaign away from Sundowns. He joined Stellenbosch FC on loan from Masandawana in January, but his spell with the Cape Winelands club came to an end at the conclusion of the season.

Stellenbosch FC, managed by Gavin Hunt, decided against extending the defender’s stay, leaving Tiwani to return to Sundowns before securing another temporary move.

The former Sekhukhune United player will now aim to establish himself at Kruger United and play a meaningful role in the club’s fight for results. His previous experience of the Betway Premiership could be particularly valuable to a side still finding its feet in the division.

Tiwani joined Sundowns from Sekhukhune United in July 2024. However, intense competition for places at Chloorkop has limited his opportunities with the reigning top-flight club and resulted in him spending time away on loan.

His move to Kruger United gives him another chance to gain valuable first-team experience while remaining under contract with Sundowns. For the newcomers, the defender’s arrival adds competition in an important position as they seek to move away from the bottom of the table.

Tiwani will hope that consistent involvement with the Village Boys can help him make a strong impression during the loan spell. Kruger United, meanwhile, will be looking for the highly-rated defender to contribute immediately as they work to turn around their slow beginning in the Betway Premiership.

The club’s priority is to begin collecting results and improve its league position, with Tiwani now part of the squad tasked with helping them achieve that objective.
