Ibrahim Hassan confirms Egypt’s South Africa test for 4 October

Egypt will play South Africa in a friendly at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October as part of their preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The match will kick off at 21:00, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan confirmed in an official statement.

The fixture will give Egypt another opportunity to prepare for their qualifying campaign, which begins during their current September camp. The national team are scheduled to face Angola on 25 September at Cairo International Stadium before travelling to Juba to meet South Sudan on 29 September.

Those two matches will be Egypt’s opening fixtures in the qualification process for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The South Africa friendly will then follow on 4 October, with the meeting also taking place at Cairo International Stadium.

Hassan confirmed that an agreement had been reached for Egypt to face South Africa in a non-competitive international, with the fixture arranged specifically within the team’s preparations for the continental qualifiers.

Egypt’s September programme therefore includes two competitive matches before the October meeting with South Africa. The opening game against Angola is set to be played in Cairo, while the second qualifier against South Sudan will take place in Juba, South Sudan.

The Egyptian Football Association said the national team’s technical staff had settled on the South Africa fixture as part of the wider planning for the 2027 qualifying campaign.

The announcement provides the schedule for Egypt’s next three international matches: Angola on 25 September, South Sudan on 29 September and South Africa on 4 October.

The first two fixtures will count towards qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, while the match against South Africa will be played as a friendly. All three games form part of the national team’s programme surrounding the start of the qualifying campaign.

Egypt will begin that campaign at home against Angola before their away trip to South Sudan. They will then return to Cairo for the friendly against South Africa, which is scheduled for a 21:00 kick-off.

The 4 October fixture was confirmed by Ibrahim Hassan in his role as director of Egypt’s senior football team. Cairo International Stadium will host the meeting between the two national sides.
