Monaco stand firm as Chelsea return with second Lamine Camara bid

AS Monaco have turned down a second proposal from Chelsea for Senegal international midfielder Lamine Camara, with the latest offer reportedly worth €50m.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, the Premier League club increased its bid after an initial approach, but the revised proposal still failed to persuade Monaco to part with a player they regard as an important part of their sporting project.

Chelsea’s renewed attempt has therefore not changed the position of the Ligue 1 club. Monaco remain unwilling, at this stage, to open the door to Camara’s departure, despite the size of the offer and the continued interest from the Blues.

Camara joined AS Monaco with considerable expectations and remains under contract with the club until June 2029. That long-term commitment gives Monaco a strong position in any negotiations and means they are under no immediate pressure to accept an offer from the transfer market.

The club’s stance is also reflected in the difference between the reported bid and Camara’s current estimated market value. Transfermarkt places the midfielder’s value at €40m, meaning Chelsea’s proposed €50m already exceeds that assessment. However, the figure has not been enough to convince Monaco to reconsider their decision to retain him.

Camara is reported to earn an annual salary of €920,000, equivalent to 598,000,000 FCFA.

For now, Chelsea’s second offer has been rejected and Monaco appear determined to keep the Senegal international as they continue with their plans for the season. The latest development leaves Camara’s future in the immediate term at the centre of attention, although his contract provides the French club with considerable control over the situation.

Monaco are due to play their third match of the French championship against Paris Saint-Germain shortly. The fixture will offer another immediate focus for the club, with Camara’s status remaining a significant talking point after Chelsea’s renewed approach.
