RC Lens striker Odsonne Édouard undergoes surgery for adductor injury
RC Lens striker Odsonne Édouard has undergone successful surgery for a chronic adductor injury and is expected to miss several weeks of action.
The 28-year-old underwent the operation on Wednesday morning after struggling with persistent pain, with the French club confirming that the procedure was successful.
Édouard has endured an injury-hit start to the season, making just nine appearances in all competitions. Only three of those outings have been starts, all in Ligue 1.
His latest setback could keep him out until after the short winter break at the end of December.
Injury problems deepen for Lens
Édouard’s absence represents another setback for Lens, who are already without Abdallah Sima following his injury before the latest international break.
Sima is not expected to return before the end of November, leaving the club short of attacking options as they manage the absence of two forwards.
The situation places greater responsibility on Franjo Ivanovic, who joined from Benfica on loan, to lead the attack during Édouard’s recovery.
Lens will hope the striker can return to fitness as soon as possible as the team navigates a difficult period with limited options up front.
Édouard faces spell on the sidelines
The surgery follows a frustrating period for Édouard, whose appearances have been restricted by injury problems during the opening months of the campaign.
With several weeks of recovery expected, Lens must now plan without the centre-forward while awaiting further progress in his rehabilitation.
His return date remains uncertain, although the injury could keep him out for much of the period leading up to the winter break.
