Omar Khedr fires ZED FC to first league win of the season

ZED FC claimed their first league victory of the season with a late 1-0 win over Tala’ea El Gaish, as Omar Khedr marked his return to the club by scoring the only goal of the match in the 87th minute.

The result also handed Tala’ea El Gaish their first defeat of the campaign. Khedr’s decisive strike came three minutes from the end of normal time and secured all three points for ZED FC in their third-round meeting at the Military Sports Authority Stadium.

Khedr made his first appearance for ZED FC since returning to the club from English side Aston Villa. His late finish proved enough to settle a closely contested match and gave his team their first league success of the season.

Tala’ea El Gaish had been reduced to 10 players before half-time. Ahmed Waheed was sent off in added time at the end of the first half after receiving a second yellow card.

The dismissal was the fourth red card shown in the league this season and the second involving Tala’ea El Gaish. Their previous sending-off came in the second round, when goalkeeper Omar Radwan was dismissed against Petrojet.

ZED FC began their campaign with a goalless draw against Wadi Degla before losing 2-0 to Al Ahly in the second round. The victory over Tala’ea El Gaish therefore represents their first three-point haul of the season.

Tala’ea El Gaish had started the campaign with two wins. They beat El Mokawloon 1-0 before overcoming Petrojet 3-2, but their unbeaten run ended against ZED FC.

The result moved Tala’ea El Gaish down to fourth place with six points, while ZED FC climbed to ninth on four points.

The third round of league fixtures continues throughout the day and into tomorrow. The round will conclude on Thursday when Al Ahly face Smouha.
