Nice sign Algeria forward Mohamed Amine Amoura on loan from Wolfsburg

Nice have signed Algeria forward Mohamed Amine Amoura from Wolfsburg on a season-long loan deal that includes an option to buy.

The 26-year-old will wear the number nine shirt for the French club after completing his move from the German side. The agreement gives Nice the possibility of making the transfer permanent at the end of the loan spell.

Amoura made 33 appearances for Wolfsburg last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. However, he has not played in any match since the beginning of the current campaign because of an injury.

His arrival adds another attacking option to the Nice squad and means he will be alongside Egypt international Mohamed Abdelmonem, as well as a number of other Arab and African players at the club.

Amoura may not, however, be reunited with fellow Algeria international Hicham Boudaoui. The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Nice in several reports before the summer transfer window closes.

Amoura’s move to Nice follows his latest spell in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, where he contributed to 33 matches last season. His eight goals and four assists formed the statistical record behind the French club’s decision to bring him in, although his current injury has prevented him from featuring so far this season.

The transfer also creates a new connection between Amoura and Abdelmonem, who represents Egypt and is part of the Nice squad. They will be joined by other players from Arab and African football backgrounds, while the uncertainty surrounding Boudaoui means the group could change before the transfer window deadline.

Nice have confirmed that Amoura will take the club’s number nine shirt. The deal remains a loan for now, but the option to buy gives the French side a route to retain the forward beyond the current season.

For Amoura, the move provides a fresh opportunity after his previous campaign in Germany, although he will first need to recover from the injury that has kept him out since the start of the season. His record last term eight goals and four assists in 33 appearances will be the benchmark for his contribution once he is available to play.

The French club’s announcement therefore brings Amoura into a squad that already includes Abdelmonem and several other Arab and African players, while Boudaoui’s possible departure could prevent the Algerian forward from playing alongside his compatriot at Nice.
