Cameroon midfielder Zambo Anguissa calls time on international football

Cameroon midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa has announced retirement from international football, bringing an important chapter of his career with the Indomitable Lions to an end.

The 30-year-old, who currently plays for Napoli, leaves the national team after several years as one of Cameroon’s most influential midfielders. His strength, composure and ability to control the tempo of matches made him a key figure for the Indomitable Lions throughout his international career.

His retirement also closes the door on a period in which he established himself as a regular presence in the Cameroon setup. However, his international journey ended without an appearance at the most recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after an injury ruled him out of the tournament.

The Napoli midfielder made his senior debut for Cameroon at the beginning of his international career and went on to accumulate 66 appearances and five goals for the Indomitable Lions.

Reflecting on his time with the national team, Zambo Anguissa expressed his gratitude for having fulfilled what he described as a dream shared by many Cameroonian children.

“Playing for the Cameroon national team is every Cameroonian child’s dream. I am very happy and, above all, very grateful to have been able to make it come true.

“After many years serving the Cameroon national team, I have decided to bring my international career to an end.”

Zambo Anguissa now turns his full attention to his club career with Napoli, while Cameroon will have to begin planning for life without one of the most experienced midfielders of his generation.
