Como extend unbeaten run against Napoli with 2-1 victory

Como continued their recent dominance over Napoli by beating them 2-1 in the second round of the Italian league, leaving Napoli without a win against the club for a fifth consecutive match.

Como have now won three of those five meetings, while the other two ended in draws. The latest result was secured by two first-half goals from Martin Baturina and Anastasios Douvikas, with Rasmus Højlund scoring Napoli’s only goal.

All three goals came before the interval in a lively contest.

Como took the lead in the 17th minute when Baturina finished with a low shot from inside the penalty area. The opportunity followed a low cross from Assane Diao, which found Baturina in a position to strike.

Napoli responded in the 30th minute through Højlund. The forward created space outside the penalty area before sending a powerful low effort beyond the goalkeeper to bring the score level.

The equaliser did not last long. Four minutes later, Douvikas restored Como’s advantage after a mistake by Napoli’s defence while attempting to play the ball out. The Greek forward capitalised on the error and fired home to put Como back in front.

Neither side added to the scoring after the break, allowing Como to claim all three points and maintain their unbeaten run in this fixture.

The victory takes Como to four points from their opening two matches of the league season, placing them sixth in the table. Napoli remain on three points and drop to 10th.

For Napoli, the defeat prolongs a difficult sequence against Como, who have now avoided defeat in each of their past five meetings. Como’s record during that run stands at three victories and two draws, underlining their recent advantage in the fixture.

The outcome also means Como move above Napoli in the early standings, although both clubs have played only two matches. Baturina’s opener and Douvikas’ decisive strike were enough to settle a match in which every goal arrived during the first half.
