Lyon forward Malick Fofana has rejected an approach from newly promoted Premier League club Hull City as the Belgium international waits for a move to a bigger club.

The 21-year-old was the subject of a bid from Hull, but has turned down the opportunity to join the Premier League newcomers, according to Foot Mercato.

Fofana is expected to leave Lyon before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with several clubs continuing to show interest in the winger.

Fofana wants bigger move

Hull’s approach came as Lyon face increasing pressure to sell players after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Fofana is regarded as one of the most obvious candidates to leave the French club, with the Belgian seeking a move that matches his ambitions.

Foot Mercato reports that the forward has his sights set on joining a ‘bigger’ club rather than making the move to Hull.

Sunderland and Arsenal linked

Sunderland are among the clubs interested in Fofana and are reportedly considering him as a potential alternative to Marseille winger Igor Paixao.

Fofana’s representatives have also offered the player to a number of clubs, including Arsenal.

The interest from multiple sides means Lyon could still find a buyer before the transfer window closes.

Lyon facing key decision

Fofana’s departure would provide Lyon with an opportunity to raise funds at a time when the club is under pressure to sell following their failure to secure Champions League football.

The 21-year-old’s future is therefore expected to be resolved before Tuesday’s deadline, with Hull no longer an option after the Belgian rejected their approach.

For Fofana, the focus now appears to be on securing a move to a club that better matches his ambitions.
