Wael Mohya call-up

Moroccan-eligible youngster Wael Mohya has revealed that his parents were moved to tears after he informed them of his first senior Germany call-up, following his impressive performances for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 17-year-old midfielder was included in Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp’s 24-man squad on Thursday for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Serbia and the Netherlands.

Speaking to Borussia Monchengladbach’s club media, Mohya explained how he discovered the news and shared the moment with his family.

The teenager revealed that he was at the gym when he received the news before informing his parents during dinner later that evening.

“I told my parents over dinner, and of course they were very happy. They even started crying,” he said, according to Sky Sport Germany.

Mohya admitted that the unexpected call-up was an emotional moment and expressed his pride at reaching such an important milestone at just 17.

“I was absolutely delighted. It means so much to me,” he said.

“I think every player dreams of being called up to the national team one day. To have reached this point now is simply amazing, and it makes me very proud.”

Impressive Bundesliga performances earn Mohya recognition

The midfielder’s first senior international invitation rewards his impressive development at Borussia Monchengladbach, where he has emerged as one of the club’s most promising young talents.

Mohya made history in March when he became the club’s youngest-ever Bundesliga goalscorer during a match against Bayern Munich.

He has continued to attract attention this season, recently scoring and providing an assist in Monchengladbach’s 3-2 victory over Stuttgart.

His performances have now earned him recognition from Klopp, who has been monitoring his progress.

Morocco still monitoring teenager’s international future

Despite earning his first senior Germany call-up, Mohya remains eligible to represent Morocco through his parents, leaving an important international decision ahead of him.

Born in Germany to Moroccan parents, the youngster has previously represented Germany at several youth levels.

In March, he confirmed that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) had contacted him over the possibility of representing the Atlas Lions.

He reiterated in August that he had not made a final decision about his senior international future, insisting that his immediate focus remained on performing for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Klopp’s decision to include him in Germany’s squad represents another significant development in the situation, although the midfielder has yet to make his senior international debut.

The German coach previously confirmed that he had spoken with Mohya and his family before handing him the call-up. Klopp praised the youngster’s Bundesliga performances but did not guarantee him playing time.

Germany prepare for Serbia and Netherlands fixtures

Germany will travel to Belgrade to face Serbia on November 13 before hosting the Netherlands in Berlin on November 16.

The two matches will provide Mohya with an opportunity to make his senior international debut as he begins his first experience with the German senior squad.
