Elversberg shock Bayer Leverkusen on historic Bundesliga debut

SV Elversberg marked their first-ever Bundesliga appearance with a stunning 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, scoring three times before the visitors mounted a late fightback.

The club, from a town with a population of about 13,000, secured promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in its history last season. Few expected much from the newcomers, but they made an emphatic start against Leverkusen on Saturday.

Lukas Petkov put Elversberg ahead before Cole Campbell doubled their advantage, with both goals arriving inside the opening nine minutes. David Mokwa then struck shortly after half-time to give the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead.

Bayer Leverkusen rallied in the closing stages. Patrik Schick pulled one back in the 77th minute and Christian Kofane made it 3-2 in the first minute of stoppage time, but Elversberg held on to claim a memorable victory.

RB Leipzig 3-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

RB Leipzig began their Bundesliga campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Red Bull Arena.

The home side controlled the match and produced a dominant performance. Ridle Baku opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Antonio Nusa extended Leipzig’s lead early in the second half.

Rocco Reitz completed the scoring in the 66th minute against his former club, ensuring Leipzig ended the match as comfortable winners.

Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Hamburger SV

Borussia Dortmund defeated Hamburger SV 2-0 at Signal Iduna Park despite being reduced to 10 men late in the game.

Dortmund took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes through Serhou Guirassy and remained in control for much of the contest. Their advantage was doubled just before half-time when a shot from Giannis Konstantelias was deflected into the net off Sebastiaan Bornauw for an own goal.

Substitute Samuele Inacio was shown a late red card, leaving Dortmund a player short for the closing stages. However, they held firm to secure a confident victory.

Union Berlin 3-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt shared six goals in an entertaining 3-3 draw at An der Alten Forsterei.

Emmanuel Latte Lath gave Union the lead in the third minute, but Eintracht Frankfurt quickly turned the match around. Younes Ebnoutalib scored three times, finding the net in the 10th, 11th and 67th minutes, to put the visitors 3-1 ahead.

Union Berlin refused to give up and launched a late recovery. Leopold Querfeld reduced the deficit in the 79th minute before Tim Skarke equalised in the second minute of stoppage time to earn the hosts a point.

FC Koln 3-2 TSG Hoffenheim

FC Koln came from behind twice to beat TSG Hoffenheim 3-2 at RheinEnergieStadion and begin their Bundesliga campaign with a hard-fought win.

Adam Daghim put Hoffenheim in front in the 27th minute, but Said El Mala levelled six minutes into the second half.

Ozan Kabak restored Hoffenheim’s advantage in the 67th minute. FC Koln then produced a decisive late response, with new signing Thijs Dallinga scoring twice in the 72nd and 82nd minutes to complete a dramatic home victory.
