Nicolas Jackson leaves Chelsea for Aston Villa in club-record £65m move

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea in a deal worth an estimated 75m euros (£65m), including bonuses.

The 25-year-old has agreed a contract running until June 2031 and becomes one of the major arrivals of the summer transfer window for the Birmingham club.

Jackson’s move brings his time with Chelsea to a definitive end after a difficult loan spell at Bayern Munich. He will not return to Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis and is instead expected to lead Aston Villa’s attacking ambitions for the long term.

The transfer represents a substantial financial commitment from Aston Villa, who have placed considerable faith in Jackson’s ability to deliver goals and provide a strong focal point in the final third.

The Senegal international is now tasked with establishing himself as one of the key attacking players in the Aston Villa squad. The club will hope the move gives him the consistency required to revive his career after his mixed experience in Germany.

The scale of the investment is underlined by Jackson’s current valuation on Transfermarkt, which stands at 40m euros. Aston Villa have therefore agreed to pay significantly more than that assessment to secure the forward’s services.

Jackson’s remuneration during his loan at Bayern Munich was reported as 6m euros a year, equivalent to 3.9bn CFA francs.

The player, known as a member of Senegal’s “Lions of Teranga”, now begins a new stage of his career in the Premier League. His six-year commitment suggests Aston Villa see him not simply as an immediate addition, but as a central figure in their plans through to 2031.

The signing comes before Aston Villa’s second match of the English league season, when they are due to face Arsenal.

Pre-match betting odds listed Aston Villa at 6.00 to win, with a draw priced at 4.10 and an Arsenal victory at 1.49. Those figures make Arsenal the clear favourites for the fixture, although Jackson’s arrival gives Aston Villa a significant new attacking option as they prepare for the contest.

For Chelsea, the transfer ends an unsettled period for Jackson, whose future had remained uncertain after his temporary move to Bayern Munich. For Aston Villa, it is a major statement of intent and one of the most expensive commitments of the summer.

The agreement until June 2031 gives Jackson the opportunity to rebuild his momentum in England while giving Aston Villa a long-term forward around whom they can shape their attack.
