Liverpool’s next attacking move ‘a priority’ after Salah departure – Iraola

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola says the club must fill a “big void” in attack following Mohamed Salah’s departure, with only four or five days remaining in the summer transfer window.

Salah left Liverpool in June, a year before his contract was due to expire, in a surprise move that ended with the Egypt forward joining Turkish club Trabzonspor. His departure has left what Iraola described as a major gap in the Reds’ forward line.

Liverpool have been linked with several potential replacements since Salah’s exit, most notably France international Bradley Barcola. The Paris Saint-Germain winger has emerged as the leading reported target, with media reports claiming the English club are close to completing a deal worth £120m.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard for English broadcaster TNT Sports, Iraola was asked about the latest developments in the club’s search for a successor to Salah.

“I hope we are close, especially as we only have four or five days left in the summer window,” said Iraola.

The Liverpool manager indicated that the club had remained patient during the transfer process but suggested there was now a pressing need for progress before the deadline.

“We have been patient so far, I think we need a little more of that as well, but there are a lot of things going on already,” he added. “We hope to announce things quickly because that position was one of our priorities, especially after Mohamed Salah left.”

Salah’s exit has made the attacking position the central issue of Liverpool’s current transfer plans. While the club has been connected with more than one possible option, Barcola has attracted particular attention as reports continue to suggest that negotiations over a £120m transfer are nearing a conclusion.

Iraola did not confirm that any agreement had been reached, but his comments underline the importance Liverpool have placed on strengthening the position before the summer window closes.

“Everyone realises that we have a big void that we need to fill; that was the main focus of our work in this transfer window,” he said.
