Manchester City name Erling Haaland to lead attack against Crystal Palace as Rayan Cherki starts

Manchester City will begin their second Premier League match with Erling Haaland leading the attack against Crystal Palace, while Rayan Cherki has been named in the starting XI.

The match will be played at 22:00 at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace’s home stadium. City have included Morocco international Ayoub Bouaddi, their new arrival, among the substitutes for the fixture.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed the side selected to face Crystal Palace, with Haaland supported in attack by Cherki and Antoine Semenyo. Phil Foden is also included in the starting line-up, with Marc Guehi named in midfield.

Gianluigi Donnarumma starts in goal for City. Nico O’Reilly, Ruben Dias, Abdukodir Khusanov and Josko Gvardiol make up the defensive line.

Bouaddi will begin the match on the bench as City look to build on their opening-day result. The club won their first league fixture 2-1 against Bournemouth, giving them an early victory to take into the meeting with Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are seeking a response after losing their first match of the campaign. They were beaten 2-0 by Everton in their opening fixture and will now face a Manchester City side whose attack is again led by Haaland.

The starting line-up places particular emphasis on City’s attacking options, with Haaland occupying the central forward role and Cherki included from the beginning. Semenyo completes the front three, while Foden provides another attacking presence from midfield.

At the other end of the pitch, Donnarumma will be protected by a four-man defence featuring O’Reilly, Dias, Khusanov and Gvardiol. Anderson and Guehi are selected alongside Foden in the midfield three.

The game at Selhurst Park therefore brings together two teams with contrasting results from the first round of Premier League matches: Manchester City began with a win over Bournemouth, while Crystal Palace opened with defeat by Everton.
