Aston Villa agree €55m deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Ibrahim Mbaye

Aston Villa have agreed a €55m deal with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye during the current transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The agreement was reached between the English club and the French champions after negotiations involving Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Sawiris used his strong relationship with Al-Khelaifi to help bring the discussions to a conclusion.

The transfer fee has been set at €55m, with the two clubs now understood to have settled the principal terms of the deal.

Mbaye was promoted to the Paris Saint-Germain first team in the summer of 2025. Since then, he has made 42 appearances for the senior side, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

During his time with Paris Saint-Germain, Mbaye has won Ligue 1 twice and the UEFA Champions League twice. His honours also include the Intercontinental Cup, the UEFA Super Cup twice and the Coupe de France once.

The move would represent another significant addition to an Aston Villa squad that has already undergone considerable change in the current transfer market. The club have also signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alejandro Garnacho, Leon Goretzka, Modou Keba Cisse, Matteo Ruggeri, Zion Suzuki, Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi.

Villa began the season with defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, losing 2-1. They then suffered a heavier setback in their opening Premier League fixture, going down 4-0 to Brighton.

Their next league match is against Arsenal on Monday, with the game taking place at Villa Park. It will be Aston Villa’s second Premier League fixture of the season as they look to respond to their disappointing start.

The proposed arrival of Mbaye would add to the club’s recruitment activity and provide further depth to manager Unai Emery’s squad. Aston Villa’s agreement with Paris Saint-Germain is based on a fee of €55m, while the player’s previous record with the French club includes 42 first-team appearances, four goals and four assists.

Mbaye’s move is the latest development in an increasingly busy transfer window for Aston Villa, who have already brought in eight other players. Their early results, however, have been difficult, with defeats in both the UEFA Super Cup and Premier League opener.

The club will now turn their attention to Arsenal at Villa Park, while the agreement for Mbaye moves them closer to completing another major signing from Paris Saint-Germain.
