Richard Boadu commits to Asante Kotoko in Ghana return

Ghanaian midfielder Richard Boadu has joined Asante Kotoko, returning to the Ghana Premier League club after a year without a team.

The 28-year-old central midfielder completed the move on 25 August 2026 and will remain with Asante Kotoko until 30 June 2028. Boadu becomes part of the club’s squad after spending the previous season unattached following his departure from Tunisian side Club Africain.

Boadu previously represented Asante Kotoko between 2021 and 2023, making the latest move a return to the club where he won the Ghanaian championship in the 2021-22 season. He joined Kotoko from Medeama in September 2021 and went on to establish himself in domestic football.

During his previous spell in Ghana’s Premier League, Boadu made 103 appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He also played eight times in the CAF Champions League and featured in seven qualifying play-off matches.

After leaving Asante Kotoko in August 2023, Boadu moved to Al-Ahly before joining Club Africain on a free transfer in January 2025. His time in Tunisia included a loan spell with Al-Tahaddy in Libya, where he made six appearances in the Libyan Premier League, scoring once and setting up one goal.

Boadu returned to Club Africain at the end of that loan but left the Tunisian club on 1 July 2025. He remained without a club until completing his return to Asante Kotoko.

Born in Kumasi, Boadu is a right-footed midfielder who operates centrally. He stands 1.78m tall and brings domestic title-winning experience to a team with which he has already made a significant number of league appearances.

The move also reunites Boadu with the Ghanaian top flight, where his career has included spells with both Asante Kotoko and Medeama. His return gives him the opportunity to resume competitive football with the club he helped to a league title.

Boadu’s new Asante Kotoko contract runs until 30 June 2028.
