Brighton bring in Algerian-French defender Jaouen Hadjam in €13m Young Boys move

Brighton have landed Algerian-French left-back Jaouen Hadjam from Young Boys for €13m, with the 23-year-old completing his move to the Premier League club on 25 August 2026.

Hadjam arrives in England after 18 months with the Swiss club, where he helped Young Boys win the Swiss championship in the 2023-24 season. He had made three appearances in the 2026-27 Swiss Super League before switching to Brighton, featuring for 189 minutes without scoring or registering an assist.

The left-footed defender began his senior career with Paris FC before moving to Nantes in January 2023 for €300,000. He joined Young Boys a year later from Nantes for €1.3m, and his latest transfer represents a substantial increase on both previous fees.

Born in Paris, Hadjam has represented Algeria and France at international level and made three appearances at the 2026 World Cup. He is 1.85m tall and has established left-back as his main position.

Hadjam joins Brighton with his market value recorded at €7m, placing the fee for his move above that figure. His arrival takes him from Switzerland’s top flight to the Premier League after a campaign in which he had already featured in three league matches.

The defender came through youth football with Paris Saint-Germain and Creteil before progressing at Paris FC. He made the move into senior football with Paris FC in 2020, then continued his professional development in France with Nantes and in Switzerland with Young Boys.

Brighton have completed the signing as the club’s latest addition from Young Boys, giving Hadjam a new chapter in English football after his spell in the Swiss Super League. The transfer was completed on 25 August 2026.
