Bradley Barcola determined to join Liverpool as talks with Paris Saint-Germain reach decisive stage
According to The Athletic, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are entering a decisive phase of negotiations over a potential deal for Bradley Barcola before the summer transfer window closes.
Barcola is determined to move to Liverpool and does not want to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, the report says. His position is understood to be central to the discussions, with the France international keen to begin a new challenge away from the French club.
Paris Saint-Germain have placed a £450m valuation on Barcola, who plays as a winger for the club. Liverpool, however, want to complete the transfer for £100m, with the player’s contract situation and desire to leave influencing their approach to the proposed deal.
The negotiations are being conducted with the transfer deadline approaching, leaving the two clubs to find an agreement over a significant difference in their respective valuations.
Barcola joined Paris Saint-Germain from Lyon in the summer of 2023. He has not played for the club since the beginning of the current season.
Paris Saint-Germain have played three matches during the campaign so far. Those fixtures were against Aston Villa in the European Super Cup, Lens in the French Super Cup and Stade de Reims in the opening round of Ligue 1.
Barcola was therefore absent from each of those matches, as uncertainty over his future continues to dominate the situation surrounding the 22-year-old.
Last season, Barcola made 49 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions. He scored 13 goals and provided seven assists during that campaign.
His performances came as Paris Saint-Germain collected a series of honours. Barcola won the UEFA Champions League twice, the European Super Cup twice and the Intercontinental Cup once. He also won the French Super Cup three times, the Coupe de France twice and the French Super Cup three times.
The reported figures underline the gap between the two clubs’ current positions. Paris Saint-Germain’s valuation of £450m is substantially higher than Liverpool’s proposed £100m offer, while Barcola’s reported refusal to renew his contract gives the player’s preference added importance in the talks.
Liverpool are now seeking to complete an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain before the summer window shuts. The Athletic’s report indicates that the negotiations have reached a crucial stage, with Barcola’s desire to join the English club clear and Paris Saint-Germain yet to accept Liverpool’s valuation of the player.
