Bournemouth sign Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio on loan with option to buy

Bournemouth have brought in Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio after he spent the past two seasons as the Italian club’s first-choice keeper.

The 29-year-old joins the Cherries with the opportunity to compete with Djordje Petrovic for the number one position at the Vitality Stadium. However, Di Gregorio’s status at Juventus changed earlier this year when he lost his place in the starting line-up.

Bournemouth’s agreement includes an option to make the transfer permanent. The Premier League club will be able to sign Di Gregorio for about £12m, with a further £2.5m available in potential add-ons.

The move takes Di Gregorio to England after he established himself as one of Serie A’s leading goalkeepers. He came through the academy at Inter Milan before gaining senior experience in Italy’s lower divisions.

After progressing through the Italian league system, Di Gregorio secured a regular position in Serie A with Monza. His performances there earned him the league’s goalkeeper of the year award in 2024 and led to a move to Juventus later that year.

During his time in Turin, he spent two seasons as Juventus’ first-choice goalkeeper and also played in European competitions. Bournemouth director Tiago Pinto said the Italian’s experience at the highest level would strengthen the squad.

“Michele is a goalkeeper with excellent qualities and valuable experience at the highest level,” Pinto said. “He has consistently demonstrated his ability in Serie A and in European competitions, and we believe he will be an excellent addition to our squad.”

Di Gregorio said Bournemouth’s ambition, as well as the club’s determination to recruit him, played a central role in his decision to move to the Premier League.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he said. “I felt the club’s desire to have me here and I felt the ambition that this club has to continue to grow and do great things.

“The Premier League is the most beautiful league in the world. It’s an honour for me to be here and to have the chance to play at such a high level.”

His arrival gives Bournemouth another experienced goalkeeping option as he begins a new chapter in England. The club will now assess how Di Gregorio fits into competition with Petrovic, while retaining the option to complete a permanent deal for the Italian at the end of the loan arrangement.

Di Gregorio’s career has taken him from the Inter Milan academy and the lower divisions of Italian football to recognition in Serie A, a move to Juventus and now a first opportunity to play in the Premier League.
