Savio joins Tottenham from Manchester City ready to make his mark

Savio has completed his move from Manchester City to Tottenham, with the 22-year-old winger saying he is ready to contribute at a “brilliant club” under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The Brazilian spent two seasons at City, making 84 appearances and scoring seven goals. He was part of the team that won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup earlier this year.

“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Savio said after finalising the transfer.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

“As soon as I spoke to the Head Coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team.”

De Zerbi believes Savio will give Tottenham an additional attacking threat, particularly when operating in wide areas and taking on defenders.

“Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said.

“He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”

Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange said the club expects Savio’s technical ability and attitude to make him an important part of the squad.

“He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here,” Lange said.

Rise from Atletico Mineiro to Manchester City

Savio began his senior career with Atletico Mineiro, making his professional debut at the age of 16 in August 2020. He subsequently moved to Troyes and spent time on loan with PSV Eindhoven and Girona.

His breakthrough came at Girona, where he developed into one of La Liga’s most promising young attackers. He completed 104 dribbles during the campaign, 18 more than any other player in the division, while helping the club secure a third-place finish.

That result earned Girona qualification for the Champions League for the first time. Savio ended the season with 41 appearances and 11 goals before joining Manchester City in July 2024.

He made his debut for City in the Community Shield and soon established himself in the Premier League side. His first Champions League goal followed in January 2025.

Savio has also become part of the Brazil set-up. He won his first senior cap against England at Wembley in March 2024 and later represented his country at the Copa America.

He currently has 13 senior international appearances and one goal.

His arrival gives De Zerbi another fast, creative option in attack as Tottenham prepare for their next match. Spurs face Charlton Athletic in the second round of the Carabao Cup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday.
