Mohamed Amoura could become Al-Ittihad’s next Algerian signing after a difficult spell at Wolfsburg

Al-Ittihad are considering a move for Algeria forward Mohamed Amoura as they look to strengthen their attack following Moussa Diaby’s departure, with the player’s future at Wolfsburg increasingly uncertain.

The Saudi Arabian club have already added Houssem Aouar to their ranks and could further increase their Algerian presence by pursuing Amoura this summer. The 24-year-old is understood to be looking for a fresh challenge after a frustrating period in Germany, particularly with Wolfsburg set to compete in the second division next season.

Amoura is reportedly unwilling to remain at that level, and Al-Ittihad are taking a serious interest in his situation. The club from Jeddah see the Algeria international as a possible replacement for Diaby, who has left the team.

A move could appeal to Amoura, whose position at Wolfsburg has become less secure in recent months. He joined the German club from Union Saint-Gilloise for about €15m in January 2025 and remains under contract until 2029.

However, Al-Ittihad face competition for his signature. Olympique de Marseille are also monitoring the forward, while a number of Serie A clubs and Schalke are said to have shown interest. A loan deal is among the options being considered as the various clubs assess how best to structure a potential transfer.

Wolfsburg would not necessarily block Amoura’s departure. Head coach Tobias Strobl recently indicated that the club’s leadership would examine any proposal that made sufficient financial sense.

The transfer interest comes after several difficult months for Amoura. He experienced disciplinary problems during his time with Wolfsburg and then endured a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign. His progress was subsequently interrupted by injury during the 2026 World Cup.

As a result, the Algeria forward played only 30 minutes against Argentina and did not have a significant opportunity to use the tournament to increase his market value. He has now returned to full team training, but his recent setbacks have left his future unresolved.

Despite those difficulties, Amoura remains an attractive player to potential suitors. His pace, ability to beat opponents and versatility across the attack continue to make him a sought-after profile.

A move to Al-Ittihad would give him the chance to reunite with Aouar and join a project regarded as considerably more ambitious than life in the German second tier. The Saudi club’s interest therefore offers Amoura one possible route away from Wolfsburg, although it remains unclear whether Al-Ittihad will turn their reported interest into a formal bid.

For now, the Algerian’s next destination is still open, with clubs in Saudi Arabia, France, Italy and Germany assessing the possibility of a deal.
