Adel Amrouche wins case against Rwanda FA after FIFA ruling

Former Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche has won his legal dispute against the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), with FIFA ordering the federation to pay him around $360,000.

FIFA has officially communicated its decision to the Rwanda FA, bringing an end to the dispute between the Belgian-Algerian coach and the governing body.

Amrouche is set to receive approximately $360,000 as compensation following the ruling, although the exact terms and breakdown of the award have not been made public.

The decision represents a significant financial setback for FERWAFA and comes after Amrouche pursued legal action over his separation from the national team.

Amrouche took charge of Rwanda as head coach in 2023, succeeding Carlos Alós, but his tenure was later brought to an end amid disagreements with the federation.

The experienced coach has worked with several national teams and clubs across Africa, having previously managed the likes of Kenya, Burundi and Tanzania, among others.

His time in Rwanda was also marked by the team’s efforts to improve its competitiveness in international football, with the Amavubi competing in Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying campaigns.

The FIFA ruling now means FERWAFA will be required to comply with the financial award made in Amrouche’s favour.

The case highlights the potential financial consequences for football associations when contractual disputes with coaches escalate to FIFA’s judicial bodies.
