Ceramica Cleopatra secure 50% sell-on clause for Mohamed Essam

Ceramica Cleopatra are entitled to 50% of any future transfer fee received for Mohamed Essam, according to a source at the club, after the player moved to Eastern Company under a partnership agreement.

The arrangement means Ceramica Cleopatra will receive half of the value of any subsequent sale of Essam to another club. The 2005-born player joined Eastern Company after Ceramica Cleopatra agreed to allow him to pursue regular first-team football in the Egyptian Premier League.

A source from Ceramica Cleopatra told FilGoal.com: “Mohamed Essam is one of the stars of Ceramica Cleopatra’s 2005 team, and his move to Eastern Company took place through a partnership between the two sides, with the aim of each team receiving 50% of any resale to another club.”

The source said the agreement was designed to protect Ceramica Cleopatra’s interest in a player who had developed within their youth set-up, while also giving Essam an opportunity that was not readily available at his former club.

“Ceramica Cleopatra opened the door for the player’s move to Eastern Company because it was necessary to give him a full opportunity with one of the Premier League clubs,” the source added. “There is an abundance of stars in the same position at our club, which would have prevented him from playing regularly during the season.”

Essam had previously spent time on loan at Dayrout in the Professional League last season. That spell was regarded by Ceramica Cleopatra as an important stage in his development before he turned 20.

The source said: “We had previously loaned Essam to Dayrout in the Professional League last season, which had the greatest impact in giving him more experience before reaching his 20th birthday.”

Essam made an immediate impression after completing his move to Eastern Company, scoring on his Egyptian Premier League debut against Al Ahly in the opening round of the competition.

Eastern Company eventually lost the match 3-2 to Al Ahly, despite taking a two-goal lead during the game. Essam’s goal came in his first appearance at the top-flight level, adding significance to the decision to move him away from Ceramica Cleopatra in search of more regular senior football.

The sell-on agreement now gives Ceramica Cleopatra a continuing financial interest in Essam’s career. Should Eastern Company transfer him to another club in the future, Ceramica Cleopatra will be entitled to half of the resulting resale value under the terms of the partnership between the two clubs.
