Sunderland complete signing of DR Congo midfielder Jules Ahoka
Sunderland have announced the signing of DR Congo international Jules Ahoka from Belgian side Royal Antwerp in a deal worth around £8 million.
The 20-year-old midfielder has signed for the Black Cats after making significant progress in Belgian football and breaking into Antwerp’s first team last season.
Ahoka’s performances in the Belgian top flight attracted attention from several clubs, but Sunderland have now secured his services as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The move marks another important step in the young midfielder’s development, with Sunderland providing him with the opportunity to continue his career in English football.
Speaking after completing his move, Ahoka expressed his excitement at becoming a Sunderland player and outlined his determination to make an impact at the club.
“I am very happy and proud to join Sunderland,” Ahoka said.
“It is a big club with great ambitions, and I am excited to be here. I want to work hard, learn from my team-mates and the staff, and continue developing as a player. I will give everything for the club and I cannot wait to get started.”
Ahoka arrives at the Stadium of Light with international experience already under his belt and will be hoping to build on his breakthrough season with Antwerp.
The midfielder becomes Sunderland’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Belgian defender Thomas Meunier and French right-back Dayann Methalie.
His arrival further underlines Sunderland’s desire to add young talent with room for development while also strengthening the squad with players capable of competing at the highest level.
For Ahoka, the move represents an opportunity to test himself in English football and take another significant step in his career.
The DR Congo international will now turn his attention to settling into his new surroundings, adapting to the demands of Sunderland and working towards making his mark with the Black Cats.
