Carabao Cup quarter-final draw: Manchester City meet Bradford as Liverpool host Bournemouth
Manchester City will face Bradford City in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, while holders Liverpool have been drawn at home to Bournemouth.
The ties were confirmed in the early hours of Thursday morning, with the draw producing a potentially difficult assignment for Liverpool and a meeting with lower-league opposition for Manchester City.
Manchester City reached the last eight after beating Brighton on penalties following a 2-2 draw. Liverpool also required a shootout to progress, overcoming Chelsea after the sides finished 1-1.
The last-16 round also delivered the competition’s biggest surprise so far, as Fleetwood Town of the fourth tier eliminated Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Crystal Palace will play Sunderland in another quarter-final, after the two sides recorded victories in the previous round. Sunderland beat Brentford 3-2, while Crystal Palace defeated Fulham 1-0 away from home.
Bournemouth advanced with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Aston Villa. Bradford City, who play in the Championship, secured their place in the quarter-finals by beating Peterborough United 2-0.
One last-16 fixture remains to be played, with Everton due to meet Newcastle United to decide the final quarter-finalist.
According to Sky Sports, the draw is:
– Fleetwood Town v Everton or Newcastle United – Manchester City v Bradford City – Crystal Palace v Sunderland – Liverpool v Bournemouth
Manchester City are the reigning Carabao Cup holders after beating Arsenal 2-0 in last season’s final.
