Benoit Badiashile joins Napoli on loan from Chelsea in bid to revive career

Napoli have signed Chelsea centre-back Benoit Badiashile on an initial loan deal, with an option to make the transfer permanent, as the 25-year-old looks to rebuild his career in Italy.

Badiashile moved to Chelsea from Monaco in January 2023 in a deal reported to be worth €37m. He made 71 appearances for the Premier League club and scored twice during his time in England.

His progress was disrupted by injuries last season, when he played only eight league matches. The move to Napoli gives the France defender an opportunity for a fresh start under manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Napoli confirmed Badiashile’s arrival on 24 August 2026, but he was not registered in time to be included in the squad for Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Genoa.

Allegri selected Rafa Marin and Amir Rrahmani at centre-back for that match. Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench and helped Napoli secure all three points.

Badiashile will now wait for his chance to make his competitive debut as he begins the next stage of his career in Serie A.

Napoli have undergone significant change in the summer. The club won the Serie A title in 2025 before finishing as runners-up to Inter Milan last season.

Antonio Conte left his position as manager during the summer, with former Juventus and AC Milan boss Allegri appointed as his successor. Badiashile will therefore start his Napoli career under a new manager as the club seeks to challenge again at the top of Italian football.

The defender joined Chelsea after establishing himself at Monaco, but injuries limited his involvement during the previous campaign. His loan move to Napoli could provide regular opportunities and allow him to regain momentum after a restricted season.

For now, Badiashile must wait for the completion of the relevant registration process before he can be considered for selection. His first competitive appearance for Napoli will come once he receives the opportunity under Allegri.

The deal gives Napoli the option to retain him permanently, while Chelsea have allowed the centre-back to move temporarily after he made 71 appearances for the club. Whether the transfer becomes permanent will be decided after his loan spell in Italy.
